But it’s true - snakes can actually become pregnant without the help of a male partner. Crazy, right? It’s called parthenogenesis and it occurs when an egg develops without being fertilized by sperm. So there you have it - snakes can be mamas too!

Wow! The Boston aquarium just announced that DNA testing has confirmed two 2-foot-long, green anaconda babies were born through parthenogenesis - aka “virgin birth”! This is super rare and pretty cool.
Snakes don’t give birth to live young like mammals do; they lay eggs! So when a snake is pregnant, it means she’s carrying eggs inside her. It’s pretty amazing - she’ll lay anywhere from a few to several dozen eggs at once. Whoa!
